  • Hey, guys! It's been forever...I've changed names and addresses, graduated, and changed jobs...life is still life, and I thought I'd stop back by my xanga and browse around.

  • I am finished with another semester! All right, it's been forever since I've written, but I am through 13 credit hours this summer, and return to work tomorrow.
Yes, although I would have thought myself crazy ten months ago, I have committed to another year of working with kids...little kids. I'm actually really excited. Although hectic, I love being busy, touching lives, and teaching.
Hey, I took a graduate level computer class this semester, and designed a website...check it out:

I've had an awesome, though busy summer. I'll have to tell more later, but for now...a good night!

    Breakthrough!!

I carried Devon (not his real name) for an airplane ride today! Amazing breakthrough. I almost cried. This is the kid that when you try to pat him on the shoulder, throws himself away and says, "Don't touch me" in a hard little voice. I've been giving the kids airplane rides to their cots before naptime for the past two weeks or so…every time I asked Devon if he wanted it, he'd say, "No!" stick his chin in the air, and walk away. Today, I asked him casually, and he said, "Yes." About halfway to his cot, I felt his body stiffen, almost like he remembered that he didn't do this, but he let me carry him the whole way. Something more is there I don't understand yet. He's a brilliant little guy…a hurting little guy. This week, I've been especially praying that I he'd let me carry him to his cot…and today, he did! It was a miracle.

The book I'm reading is inspiring...sad what kids today often go through, but exciting to think it's possible to make a difference. You should pick a copy up.

  • Charles Taylor Visits Laurel

Well, not CT himself, but two of his office staff. They presented us with a flag flown over the White House especially for Laurel. It was a cool ceremony, and I was so glad they let my kids come. My kids got to help sing "You're a Grand Old Flag" with the school after the flag was presented. The man from the newspaper was there, and took some pictures of my kids...maybe they'll be in the paper!

  • We went with some friends to the Biltmore House today (http://www.biltmore.com/). It's really amazing how some people lived. Bedroom upon bedroom--beautifully furnished. Handcarved wooden doors. Marble counters and wall covers. We toured all four stories of the house...even the servant's quarters were nicer than a lot of rooms I've seen. In one way, it was really awesome, in another, the extravagance made me sick. Awesome to see how rich people lived in the early part of this century. Sickening to think of how most people in this area lived in the early part of this century...and how many people in other countries live today.
Money is a gift. It should be used wisely, for the help of those in need...either of physical or spiritual help.
    A thought...
"By all that has given us advantage over another,--be it education and refinement, nobility of character, Christian training, religious experience,--we are in debt to those less favored; and, so far as lies in our power, we are to minister unto them." (Minstry of Healing)
I'm in debt. I desire to work for others...to help...to spend and be spent.
